Questa varietà è stata scoperta a Valencia recentemente, intorno al 2006. Fu notato un albero di arance navel con alcuni frutti con la buccia più scura del solito, di colore bruno. Dopo aver esaminato questa varietà, si decise di propagarla, con il nome di Navel Chocolate. Il gusto è gradevolmente dolce e aromatico. Il periodo di raccolta e maturazione non è molto ampio: inizia a dicembre (come per quasi tutti i navel) e termina a febbraio. Di solito i frutti si consumano freschi ma sono anche ottimi per succhi di frutta e spremute.
