It was discovered in 1982 by El Bachir Nadori in an experimental unit in Afourer, Morocco. The original, aromatic fruit had many seeds, but a seedless variety was produced in 1988, by cross pollination, and named Afourer. It is also known as Nadarcott, and is grown in Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Argentina and South Africa.
