The plant comes from the citrus garden of Chiaravalli Floriculture in Monza. This grapefruit owes its name to the Olympic champion Ernesto Ambrosini, bronze medalist at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp in the 3000m steeplechase. The champion's daughter-in-law, Ines Pogliani Ambrosini, planted a grapefruit seed in a pot more than 100 years ago, which over time has become a plant that has begun to produce beautiful pink fruits. For years her grandchildren Ernesto and Antonella kept it at the entrance to the tobacconist bar in Piazza Carducci, until the municipality intervened with a project to renovate the square and the plant was taken to the Chiaravalli greenhouse, with the promise that it would never be sold.
