The tree is medium sized with a rounded, compact appearance, narrow dark green leaves and small, white flowers. The small spherical fruits are flattened at the ends and similar to clementines, with bright orange rind turning reddish when ripe. The rind is loosely attached to the pleasant-tasting flesh which contains numerous polyembryonic seeds. The Cleopatra mandarin is highly cold-hardy and can be used as a rootstock, although this delays the plant’s productivity and grows fairly slowly. The attractive foliage shape and high production of fruit, which holds well on the tree, make this a suitable ornamental plant
