It is a very vigorous, thorny plant with less assurgent growth than the Seville orange. It has very handsome, deep green leaves with the alate petiole typical of all sour orange cultivars. It flowers mainly in spring, producing very fragrant white blossom similar to that of the sweet orange. The spherical fruit is deep orange and slightly flattened at the ends, with rather wrinkled rind, and acidic, bitter flesh. It may have protuberances resembling little horns, hence its name.
