Following years of study, it was patented at the Citrus Experiment Station of the University of Riverside (U.C.R.) in California by genetics professor Robert K. Soots (13.11.1920–08.03.2009) and professor of horticultural science and hybridizer James W. Cameron (23.04.1913–12.01.2010). The fruit is larger than a grapefruit and generally round, with thick rind varying from pale green to yellow when ripe. It ripens fairly early but holds well on the tree and has an average weight of 500 g. The pale yellow, practically seedless flesh is considerably sweeter than a grapefruit and is divided into segments. However, the white membranes enclosing them are quite bitter. The plant is very vigorous and has broad leaves.
