It was found by Tintori in the Botanical Gardens in Lucca, hence its name. The plant has assurgent growth, with an irregular canopy and slightly thorny branches. The dark green leaves are rather elongated and the purplish buds grow in clusters. The fruit is characterized by the colour of the rind, which remains green with a purplish tinge until fully ripe.
