The variety was named after the nurseryman C. M. Marsh who purchased the Lakeland Nursery Company, where he commenced cultivation in 1886. More simply, it is also referred to as Marsh. The plant is vigorous and highly productive, with thick, assurgent growth. The big leaves have a petiole with large wings. The fruit is spherical or slightly flattened, with an average weight of 300–350 g, and holds well on the tree even after ripening. It can be stored for long periods in a refrigerator. The pale yellow rind is very smooth and relatively thin, while the light yellow flesh is very juicy, pleasantly flavoured, and almost completely seedless. The flowers grow in clusters. This is the most widespread grapefruit variety in the world.
