The leaves are similar to the papeda, large and pointed. The yellow fruit looks like a large knobbly citron, has few or no seeds, and the flesh is sweet, fruity and minimally sour. The pith is very thick. It flowers between March and April and bears fruit between November and January. This cultivar is a Japanese rarity, grown as a curiosity for the size and appearance of the fruit. It is mainly produced in the Fukishima region and sometimes found in the Nishiki market in Kyoto. It is probably a hybrid of citron and papeda, of uncertain origin.
