It is probably a mutation of the Ovale Calabrese. The fruit is a uniform light orange in colour, with a smooth, opaque surface, thin rind, and light orange, very juicy flesh with a strong, pleasant fragrance. It is usually seedless. The tree flowers in mid-April. The Ovaletto di Calatafimi starts bearing fruit 3-4 years after grafting, and the fruit is fully ripe in mid-April although edible from February. If left on the tree it will last until June.
