Some botanists believe it is a hybrid of Pursha lime (a sour lime) x chinotto. This plant, or one similar, was documented in the 17th century and described as followed in Gallesio (1839): “A species of lemon with sweet juice, but its features are unlike the lemon and more like the orange in the leaves, which are dark green and narrow, the white flowers and round fruit”. The highly productive plant presents average growth, and bushy habit with irregular foliage. The leaves are smallish, elliptic with a pointed tip and glossy dark green with a slightly winged petiole. The bright white flowers are very fragrant. The fruit is small, spherical with flattened ends and sometimes presents unusual horn-like protuberances at the apex. The yellow, wrinkled rind is loosely attached to the flesh which has a pleasant, bittersweet flavour. The plant flowers abundantly and continually between April and November. It is suitable as an ornamental plant due to the presence of flowers and fruit in various stages of ripeness.
</oembed>
