The Santa Teresa lemon was found in Santa Teresa Riva (ME) and selected by the lstituto Sperimentale per l'Agrumicoltura of Acireale (CT). The plant is thornless and of average vigour with assurgent growth and large, oblong leaves. The elliptic fruit is of average size and pale yellow. The rind is roughly pebbled and of average thickness, with a high content of essential oils. The flesh is very acidic and contains numerous seeds. This cultivar has never been produced on a large scale because it is not very productive or juicy. It does not adapt well outside its native environment and its distribution has remained almost exclusively limited to eastern Sicily.
