The petioles are 3.5-6cm long with broad wings, which may be up to 4cm wider than the leaf. The small flowers (12-13mm in diameter) are white with a hint of purple. 2-5 flowers form axillary racemes or at the tip of new buds. The flowers consist of four petals, with 15-17 free stamens. The fruit is oblong, 5-7cm long and 3-4 in diameter ith a nipple at the apex. The lemon-yellow rind is fairly smooth and exceptionally thick while the juicy, sharp-flavoured flesh consists of 6-8 segments with numerous seeds, flattened with pointed ends. This species is grown in the southern Philippine islands where it is called Biasong, and the juice is used for washing hair. The fruit is in no way edible.
</oembed>
