Like all citron-lemons, the Spadaforese displays characteristics of both lemons and citrons. In particular, the fruit of this variety may weigh over 300 g, like a citron, while the growth habit of the plant and the flavour of the fruit resemble a lemon. The pith is particularly thick and pleasantly flavoured. Indeed, the fruit is used whole (rind included) in the typical citrus salads, or sliced and eaten fresh. On occasion of the Feast of Saint Agatha, slices are sold in the streets. The variety is grown almost exclusively in the municipality of Trabia (PA) and the production is destined for local consumption. The plants are remontant and each tree may produce up to 100 kg of fruit.
