In 1983 it was introduced in California and has been marketed since 1990. Tree: Medium sized, preading and rounded in habit with abundant branches. The leaves are lanceolate and dark green with a short stem and no wings. The abundant flowers are large with creamy white anthers. Fruit: rounded, similar in size to the Navelina orange, with an external, not especially prominent navel. The medium-thick, bright orange rind is easily removed and smooth with numerous glands rich in essential oils. The pith is white and compact. The orange flesh has a pleasant flavour and soft consistency, with nicely balanced soluble solids and total acidity. Compared to the Navelina orange, Fukumoto shows a lower percentage of albedo creasing disease.
