Grown by the Medici family in their gardens from the 16th century, it subsequently became widespread in many of the villas of the nobility in Tuscany. It can certainly be considered the prince of citrus fruit, due to its generous fruit production all year round. Its frequent reflowering means that fruits at different stages of ripeness can be found on the same tree. This highly productive variety is vigorous and fairly thorny with assurgent growth. It is characterized by its purplish young shoots, elliptic leaves with non-alate petiole articulated with the leaf blade, purplish buds growing singly and in clusters, and very fragrant flowers. The acidic fruit is ellipsoidal and fairly elongate, with delicately scented, juicy, pale yellow flesh. "}
