The fruit is slightly flattened at the ends. The smooth, almost shiny rind turns bright yellow when ripe. The rind is medium-thick and the flesh is divided into numerous segments with very thin membranes. The tender flesh is medium-juicy, faintly bitter, and moderately acidic, with good flavour. The large leaves are thick with alate margins. Hirado is considered the secondmost important commercial variety in Japan, after Banpeiyu. Its flesh is white or pale yellow-green, although there is a new Florida selection with pink flesh."}
