Its cultivation has a long history and the trees were already grown in the gardens of the wealthiest families of Rocca Imperiale in the 19th century. However, the oldest historical testimony of the variety in Rocca Imperiale dates back to the 17th century, around 1644, when parochial records listed several purchases of lemons. The fruit is harvested between December and March. The colour of the rind varies from pale green to yellow and the shape from elongate elliptic to spheroid. The fruit is medium-large, weighing at least 100 g, and the aromatic rind is rich in essential oil and has a pervasive heady fragrance. The flesh is pale yellow and practically seedless."}
