Authors of related literature have often confused this plant with other sour orange cultivars, like the Swiss Orange, the Variegated Leaf Sour Orange and the Willowleaf Sour Orange; but it differs from these mainly because both the furrowed fruits and the long, narrow, lanceolate leaves are variegated. The medium-sized plant is bushy with an irregular canopy. The leaves are similar in shape to the willow and usually variegated, while the flowers are white and fragrant. The fruits are medium-sized, spherical, and slightly flattened at the ends. It is an interesting ornamental plant. .45. Variegated-Leaf Sour Orange This cultivar was depicted in the late 17th century by B. Bimbi, who wrongly defined it as the Turkish orange, and was later described by G. Gallesio in 1839. Like the Seville orange, it is a very vigorous, thorny plant with assurgent growth. Its leaves are yellow-green and variegated with the alate petiole typical of all sour orange cultivars. It flowers mainly in spring, producing very fragrant white blossom similar to that of the sweet orange. The spherical fruit is a little smaller than the Seville orange and slightly flattened at the ends. The flesh is acidic and bitterish, and the rather wrinkly rind is pale yellow with longitudinal orange stripes when ripe. It is a very ornamental plant. "}
