Bimbi, who wrongly defined it as the Turkish orange, and was later described by G. Gallesio in 1839. Like the Seville orange, it is a very vigorous, thorny plant with assurgent growth. Its leaves are yellow-green and variegated with the alate petiole typical of all sour orange cultivars. It flowers mainly in spring, producing very fragrant white blossom similar to that of the sweet orange. The spherical fruit is a little smaller than the Seville orange and slightly flattened at the ends. The flesh is acidic and bitterish, and the rather wrinkly rind is pale yellow with longitudinal orange stripes when ripe. It is a very ornamental plant."}
