The Kao Pan pomelo, also known as the Kao Panne, Khao Paen, or White Flat pomelo, has been grown in the Nakhon Chaisri district south of Bangkok, in Thailand, for at least 160 years.
\nThe plant is highly productive, with few thorns and medium-large rounded leaves. It has a rounded, drooping growth habit and is not very vigorous. The flowers are large and rather coriaceous.
\nThe early-ripening fruit is flattened at the ends and small for a pomelo (10\u201312 cm diameter). It has smooth, tight, thick rind (1\u20132 cm) that turns pale yellow like a lemon when ripe.
\nThe light yellow flesh is moderately sweet and juicy, with a faintly bitter, acidic flavour. It is distributed in 12\u201315 segments that are difficult to separate. The membranes of the segments are thick and hard, while the flesh inside them is contained in small vesicles that are easy to separate and can be eaten like a pomegranate.
\nThe Kao Pan pomelo is considered the finest Thai pomelo.<\/p>\n
