The pear lemon tree has very fragrant fruit with very thick, yellow rind. The white interior of the fruit is inedible. The pear lemon is mainly grown as an ornamental plant but the fruit, which looks similar to a lemon or citron, is used for marmalades, preserves and juices. The fruit is narrower at one end, similar in shape to a pear. The colour of the ripe fruit is bright yellow and it has the typical citrus aroma, while the flesh is sour in flavour. The leaves are lanceolate with dentate blades. The flowers are large and fragrant, arranged in clumps. The tree flowers twice a year and the ripe fruit remains on the tree for a long time.
