A thorny, vigorous tree, with assurgent and spreading habit, dark green leaves similar to the lemon, and purplish flower buds and new leaves. It flowers once a year. The fruit is medium-large and oval or rounded with a large, prominent nipple, and fine texture, and furrowed or knobbly, golden-yellow rind. The deep red flesh has little juice, numerous, polyembryonic seeds and an aroma similar to bitter oranges. Karna is an old Indian variety used as a rootstock.
